When those who have the means to give support to those who are less fortunate, we move closer towards a future where everyone has the chance to thrive.

As Ramadan approaches, we prepare to launch our annual campaign with a powerful message: ‘We owe it to each other’ — words, we hope, will encourage others to recognise our collective responsibility to create a fairer and more equitable society.

During this time of increased contemplation and empathy, we invite individuals to join us in fulfilling this responsibility by donating to ACF. Together, we can make a profound difference in the lives of those facing economic inequality and financial exclusion.

We owe it to each other — a deeper understanding

At this special and significant time of year, we find ourselves reflecting on the values of compassion, generosity, and community. It’s a time when individuals around the world come together to support one another, particularly those facing hardship and adversity. At ACF, we believe that Ramadan is not only a time for personal reflection but also a time for collective action.

This year, our ‘We owe it to each other’ campaign is deeply inspired by the spirit of unity and solidarity that defines Ramadan. This campaign is more than just a call for donations — it’s a reminder of our shared responsibility to uplift those in need and build a more equitable society.

At the heart of our campaign is the belief that we all have a duty to support one another, especially during times of difficulty. We recognise that economic inequality and financial exclusion are persistent challenges that require collective action to address. By coming together and pooling our resources, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of those facing exceptional challenges and barriers to support.

The spirit of generosity during Ramadan

Although we are an organisation rooted in Islamic principles, we support people of all faiths or no faith. We understand that many of our readers may not be familiar with Ramadan, its significance, and the traditions associated with it. For those individuals, this section of the blog is for you.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting, prayer, reflection, and community. During Ramadan, Muslims abstain from food, drink, and other physical needs from dawn until sunset. Fasting during Ramadan is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The fast is intended to teach self-discipline, self-control, and empathy for those less fortunate, as well as to cleanse the soul and attain spiritual growth.

In addition to fasting, Ramadan is also a time for increased prayer, reading of the Quran, and acts of charity. Muslims are encouraged to engage in acts of generosity, compassion, and kindness throughout the month, seeking to earn blessings and rewards from Allah (God) and to fulfil their duty to help those in need.

Charitable giving, known as Zakat, is an integral part of Ramadan and is considered one of the Five Pillars of Islam. Muslims are required to give a portion of their wealth to those in need. This practice of giving alms is meant to purify one’s wealth and to ensure that everyone in the community has access to basic necessities.

In addition to Zakat, Muslims are also encouraged to give voluntary donations, known as Sadaqah, throughout Ramadan. Sadaqah can take many forms, including feeding the hungry, providing assistance to the poor, supporting charitable organisations, and performing acts of kindness and service to others.

During Ramadan, the spirit of generosity is palpable. This generosity also extends beyond material wealth, encompassing time, compassion, and support for one another. It’s a time when we’re reminded of the importance of giving back and supporting those less fortunate than ourselves.

For us at ACF, Ramadan highlights the interconnectedness of communities and the importance of helping each other. It’s a time when individuals from diverse backgrounds come together in solidarity, recognising that we are all part of a larger global community. By supporting one another and lifting each other up, we can overcome challenges, bridge divides, and create a more inclusive and compassionate society. Donations to ACF have the power to transform lives, empower individuals, and create lasting change that reverberates throughout our communities.

The idea of the ‘haves’ helping the ‘have nots’

At the heart of our campaign is the idea of the haves helping the have nots. We recognise that economic inequality is a pervasive issue that affects individuals and communities worldwide. By extending a helping hand to those in need, we can level the playing field and create opportunities for all. When those who have the means to give support to those who are less fortunate, we move closer towards a future where everyone has the chance to thrive.

Why donate to ACF?

When you donate to ACF, you’re not just giving monetary support; you’re investing in a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive. Your donation supports our efforts in three key areas:

– Education and skills development: We invest in specialist education and skill development programmes aimed at empowering marginalised communities. By engaging with communities and listening to their needs, we support underrepresented members in underserved areas, providing them with the tools and resources they need to succeed.

– Financial inclusion: We advocate for policies and initiatives that promote financial inclusion, such as providing access to interest-free finance to start micro, small, and medium enterprises. We also work to improve financial literacy and share resources with entrepreneurs from disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring that everyone has equal access to economic opportunities.

– Charitable giving and donations: We dedicate our time and resources to serve marginalised communities through direct service and capacity-building initiatives. Additionally, your financial contributions go directly to individuals at the grassroots level, making a positive social and economic impact in their lives.

What sets ACF apart is our commitment to creating a cycle of support that extends beyond the immediate impact of donations. When you donate to ACF, you’re not just helping individuals today; you’re investing in the future. The beneficiaries of today become the benefactors of tomorrow — as they succeed and grow their businesses, they pay it forward, creating a ripple effect of generosity and empowerment. One donation from you, essentially, lasts a lifetime.

Join us in our mission to create a more just and equitable society. We owe it to each other to build a future where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
