Bridging the Finance Gap – ACF’s Akmal Hanuk Featured on Business News Wales Podcast
It was an honour to join Dr. Jill Jones of Women Angels of Wales and Emma Musgrave of Purple Shoots on Business News Wales‘ latest podcast episode, “The Finance Gap: Who’s Being Left Behind?” hosted by Gemma Casey. In this episode, our CEO and founder, Akmal Hanuk, shared his insights on how Assadaqaat Community Finance (ACF) bridges the finance gap for marginalised entrepreneurs in the UK.
Why does this “Finance Gap” matter?
As highlighted by Akmal in the podcast:
“Minorities own 10% of UK businesses but get below 4% of SME finance. This stark disparity means thousnads of talented entrepreeurs, many female, youth and those from ethnic minority backgrounds, struggle to access the funding, mentorship and support needed to grow and scale their businesses”
How does ACF bridge the “Finance Gap”?
ACF was founded with a clear vision – to remove the barriers and empower underrepresented entrepreneurs. Through programs like our Women Entrepreneurship Programme, tailored business mentorship and planning and interest-free community finance, we help founders become investment-ready regardless of their background or journey.
Why is our work important?
When marginalised entrepreneurs thrive, they create jobs, build local economies and generate lasting social impact. Yet national statistics show that financial exclusion is still widespread:
Just 3% of UK venture capital funding goes to female-led teams, while male-led teams receive 79%.
Only 14% of debt finance flows to female-led businesses, compared to 61% for male-led teams.
Women-owned businesses generate twice the average return on investment, yet are consistently underfunded, meaning local economies and communities miss out on solutions they need.
